The room is strangely quiet as I slip out of bed and realize the sea of white snow. I hurry to get dressed and start bolting for the back door of our beautiful, city home in Tualatin. Today I will walk through my snow-covered yard as if I am swimming through the ocean. I can stay in my fuzzy snowman pajamas all day long and be just plain lazy. My dad comes in to tell me that there is no school and I turn my alarm clock off.

I sleep in and when I wake up I make myself a cup of hot chocolate with mini marshmallows piled high. Then, I play with my dogs, Nala and Georgia and watch as they run, jump, leap, and frolic about through the fresh winter snow.

Finally, I watch TV and excitedly wait for my sisters to awake. When my sister finally gets up we have breakfast which is usually pancakes or toaster waffles. As I eat I take my time to enjoy and embrace the scenery around me.

I watch as the snow is falling and swirling around making shapes in the gray winter sky. I watch all the other kids breaking out their sleds and walking up to Swiss Home, the local neighborhood sledding hill. I put on my blue, baggy snow pants and quickly run out to join my friends. Wind in my hair, snow in my face, and that thrill of excitement rushing through your spine feels like no other feeling.

The magic of snow days are amazing because they just make you feel like a little kid again. Snow days are my favorite days in the world. It feels so magical whenever we have one.
